OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Thank you Christina for chairing our Shoebox Party, and Eva for your guidance. We had a great turn out! 78 boxes were filled and delivered to the Rutherford Bible Chapel who very graciously agreed to deliver them to a designated drop-off location. Thank you also to Sue Forsythe and her orthodontist for the donation of toothbrushes and toothpaste for this project. We hope everyone in attendance had a great time. It is truly a wonderful way to start the holiday Season. Thank you to our members, guests and children who stuffed boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

UN NEWS

We  would like to bring to your attention two United Nations commemorations this month. On November 20th it is Universal Children's Day. Make sure to schedule something special with the little ones in your life. On November 25th, it is UN Violence Against Women Day. Please keep these women in your thoughts and prayers. Finally, there are AIDS flyers on the front table, please take a few and distribute them where ever possible on December 1st, World Aids Day. This pandemic is still taking too many lives and by raising awareness we hope to decrease the number.

ORPHAN CLOTHING DRIVE

Thank you to everyone that donated clothing to orphans in Ukraine. Our Ukrainian Woman's League contact has moved and will be boxing and mailing our donation this month. In addition to clothing, I was able to secure a donation from a Colgate representative of toothpaste and brushes and a second donation from a dentist friend of toothpaste. So, we were able to add a good amount of hygiene products to our regular shipment of clothing.

ORPHAN SPONSORSHIP

The Juniors are supporting Roman Tsapenko, a disabled orphan in Ukraine. We are now looking into additional support for Roman, possibly paying an aide to make sure he gets to the Rehabilitation Center which recommended him for sponsorship and a ramp to the entrance of his apartment that would enable his grandmother and him greater mobility.

STAMP COLLECTION

We continue to collect stamps, especially international postage. Please bring them to any of our meetings.

Pinwheels for Peace

For those of you who are Brownie Leaders this great project is highlighted in your Journey Book.  Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to do this great project with your club.

imagine...  whirled peace!

In today’s world, peace needs to be more than just a word.

Imagine…  millions of pinwheels spinning in the wind – pinwheels in the United States, Great Britain, South America, Australia, the Middle East, Canada, Africa, Europe and Asia;  pinwheels all over the world!

–       big pinwheels, small pinwheels;  pinwheels of all  shapes and sizes

–       colorful pinwheels, decorated with drawings, paintings, collages, photographs  – pinwheels with words of peace and harmony written on them – fields of pinwheels, pinwheels along roadsides, in schoolyards, in parks, pinwheels EVERYWHERE!

Please visit www.pinwheelsforopeace.com for free templates for your pinwheels.

Please join us on International Day of Peace, September 21st, as we create a visual public statement about peace!
