Read Across America The nationwide reading celebration took place in March, on the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss. Across the country thousands of schools, libraries, community centers and more participate by bringing together kids and books!!!
The Education Department donated Dr. Seuss books to each of the elementary schools in town.

We invite all interested female high school seniors who live in Rutherford, and who will be enrolling as a freshman in college or trade school in September 2010, to apply for a scholarship in an amount up to $500.The successful candidate should exhibit exceptional contributions to her community through volunteerism.Please mail your completed application and a copy of your high school transcript to JWC of Rutherford, P.O. Box 1657, Rutherford, NJ 07070. Postmark deadline is April 1,2010. The application is posted below.
Collections We are collecting Campbell Soup Labels and Box Tops throughout the year. If you do not already send them in to a school, you can bring them to our meetings. Book Club Share a good read with a friend. Bring your favorite book and exchange it for a new one.
Annual 4th & 5th Grade Spelling Bee
The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Rutherford (JWCR) sponsored the 4th Annual Spelling Bee for Rutherford students in grades four and five on January 23, 2009 at Union School.Students participated from Pierrepont, Union and St. Mary’s schools. Awards and prizes were donated by Boiling Savings Bank and Target of Clifton.Refreshments were provided by the Union School PTA and JWCR.
The winners were: Thomas Griggs, first place winner; Daniel Feliciano, second place winner; Jack Korosy, third place winner.
The three winners were invited to compete at the NJSFWC-Junior Membership Palisades District Spelling Bee on February 8, 2009 in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
At the District Bee, the three Rutherford winners placed in the top 5 students.
The District winners were, First Place: Jack Korosy of Rutherford; Second Place: Daniel Feliciano of Rutherford; and Third Place: Lauren Sembrano of Hasbrouck Heights.
These three winners have been invited to compete in the NJSFWC-JM State Spelling Bee on Sunday, March 15th in New Brunswick, NJ.

Girl's Career Institute
Each year, the club sponsors two High School Juniors as its delegates to attend Girls Career Institute at Douglass College.The Institute takes place on the Douglass College Campus of Rutgers University in June.
The Girls Career Institute is a unique and life changing experience for young women from all over the state.It provides them with a taste of college life, the opportunity to live in a dormitory, and to meet delegates from all over the state.More importantly, it offers them an opportunity to learn of the many career options available to young women today.
Our selected delegates for 2009 were Angela Palanza and Brianne Boyle. Congratulations! We will invite them to one of our monthly meetings in the Fall to let us know what they thought about their experiences.
